How would you describe yourself in terms of your ability to work as a member of a team?

I like to permit to other members in group that speaking together, and also listen to them. I can be a good team player with team spirit. One time, I remember that there was a new person on my team that was hard to get along with. But I try to talk to him for many times. After all, he believed in me and work with other team players friendly.I have a good leadership ability(in our classmates's serial opinion). But sometimes I trend to appear on my face when I am nervous or get angry. It is my worst point. If I overcome this, I will be a good person. I still am warm-hearted person(in my opinion).

How to enter Universities in Canada!

I have 2 children who are high school students. My older children daughter is going to be grade 12 this September. So we are concerned about entering University very much. It is very different from Korea. Korea Universities have an examination that is called 'Daehak(University) Suhak(learning studying) Neungryuck(ability) Sihum(test)' and need to volunteer 40 hrs over for entering Unversity. But Canada's Universities need to submit grade12 scores and volunteer over 40 hrs. If your children lived below 4 years in non using English country, they have to take a TOEFL(ibt) test. Most Unversities require average 90 score of TOEFL. But there are Universities that require over 100 - i.e. University of Toronto, Waterloo computer engeneering, etc. Waterloo is famous for engeneering, Schulich school of business in York University and Queens are famous for business. Canada's Universities are very difficult to graduate. Especially a number of students are cut in their University when they are freshmen. So at grade 1 they have to study very very hard. I heard children who immigrate and study abroad feel difficulty very much English studying more and more. Refer to http://www.electronicinfo.ca/ if you want to get more informations about University entrance.

I want to overcome and enjoy my children all difficulties. I always prepare to help them. My husband think so,too. Even though they just have lived for 9 months roughly in Canada, I'm happy that they seem to adapt Canadian life well. I feel to thank for my children because they don't complain and study hard. Anyway, new challenge needs much effort.

Citizenship

Carlos Kssoma said, " I escaped war in Angola to come to Canada. I feel very proud that I got accepted and I feel very proud and very safe in this country."

Generally, Korean immigrates or studies abroad for their children's education. Korean education is very stressed and press to students. All day they have to study hard. Especially, high school students go to school at 7 am and come back home at 11 pm. When I was high school studient, I also did so. But I think it is not bad. Korean is patient and diligent for having this reason. The another reason of studying abroad in Canada is for English.

My family immigrated in Canada last October. We have been here for 9 months roughly. Only my husband hoped to immigrate strongly. I have never thought I will live in other country. I was very confused and sad. My husband have worked for 20 years in American IT company (Hewlett Packard and Cisco systems Korea). He wanted to retire his work and study another subject. He persuaded my children and me continuously. Especially I was worried about my children's adaptation because they are high school studients. After all I decided to agree his opinion. Now I think both of Korea and Canadian education is good. Canadian education is very reasonable, but very free. A lot of free is not good. In case of Korea,
it gets pressed, but it makes order. Anyway I satisfy more or less now. My husband and children study very hard everyday and join volunteer activity positively. He also has a lot of concerns my children about thier education and shool life. I also help them. My Canadian life is busier than Korea. I hope to adapt Canadian life quickly.
I also thank for our linc teacher, Joseph who teaches eagerly.

Recreation Facilities

My family had registered to YMCA since last December. All of us can use the facilities at the YMCA gymnasium. The general fee is $95 a month, but we pay $65 for my family because we are newcomer. This does not include lessons. At first, I thought it was very cheap and a fantastic condition! But I realized it is waste because we didn't often go to the YMCA. So we stopped going the YMCA.

After I researched in "Toronto Fun Guide", I knew that it is good for us to exercise only one. So I searched for the nearest swimming centre to my house. Below is the information about swimming lessons. More detailed information is available at the in "Toronto Fun Guide" website.

  • York Mills C.I. (490 York Mills Rd.) 416-395-3841
  • Cummer Park C.C. (6000 Leslie St.) 416-395-7803
  • Fees : 5-18 yrs $56/9 days (for 30mins.) M-F
  • 17 yrs+ $62/8 wks (for 1hr.) M-F

If you like to exercise a lot, you may choose my family's option of YMCA above. Exercise regularly and have a healthy summer!

Father's Day

Today is Father's Day. Father's Day doesn't exist in Korea, but there is a "Parents Day". The Parents Day is on May 8 every year. I miss my parents, who live in Korea. I always think of them and frequently call them. When my family left for Canada, they wept for long time. But now they are satisfied because my family looks like to adapt well in Canada. Parents are always worried about their children. When I was young, my parents felt as if I were a baby. But after I have grown up, I feel as if they were a babies.

So I will love and take care of my parents continuously as they gave me lots of love!
Mom and Dad, be healthy and live for a long long time!

FIFA WORLD CUP

The FIFA World Cup Finals is one of world's biggest parties. The whole world is enthusiastic over it. I have an interest in my country, South Korea. South Korea has a population of 48,508,972 ('09) and an area of 99,268 sq km. It is on a narrow peninsula, and there are a lot of people and tall buildings. Especially crowded is the capital city of Seoul. There are a lot of tourist attractions. These include Seoul Tower, Namdaemun Market, Lotte World, etc. Most things are located in Seoul. Seoul has a lot of sightseeing destinations. If you visit , you will have a good time there. I miss Seoul, Korea.

Long ago, Koreans were very concerned with soccer games, but the results were usually not good. A big chance occurred in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Our team made the 16 top teams and was ranked fourth in the world. Koreans cheered enthusiastically in their wearing red T-shirts. The logo on their T-shirts was "Red Devils". So the cheeleaders was called "Red Devils". The "Red Devils" will also play an important role in this 2010 FIFA
World Cup.

Last Saturday, our players played their first game against Greece. They scored 2 goals, one goal in the first half by JungSu Lee and one goal in second half by Jisung Park. So our country beat Greece by a score of 2-0. Our goalkeeper, SungYoung Jung, did very well on his debut. Another excellent player was Jisung Park. He is the best soccer player for Korea and is also called ''a soccer genius''. He belongs to Manchester United (in England) now. As expected, he didn't disappoint us in this game. His goal drove my family wild. I expect to have more good results in the coming games. "Keep fighting, Korea!"

online shopping

I have never used online shopping in Canada. But my husband has used it here a few times. He ordered a laptop, small electronic items, books, etc. Everything was convenient and a good quality. Also they were cheaper than bought in the shopping mall. So my husband likes online shopping and often used it in Korea, too.
Although it has a lot of advantages, I don't like it. Seeing is believing. If we want to buy something, it's more interesting to go around a shopping mall looking for it. And we can try on clothes or shoes. It is good for health to walk around a shopping mall, too. Anyway, I enjoy offline shopping.
Online shopping or offline shopping: It is your choice!
